27 year old Romanian pianist Daniel Ciobanu was awarded 2nd prize and audience favourite in the Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Master Competition 2017

Daniel Ciobanu started piano at the age of 9 in Piatra Neamt, Romania, with ms.Cosma Magdolna at the “Victor Brauner” music highschool , followed by lessons with ms.Delia Balan , wife of the famous conductor Ovidiu Balan , mr,Iulian Arcadi Trofin (renowed concert pianist)  and finishing with a Neuhaus tradition of music school through ms. Mihaela Spiridon .

Inbetween the years of the school in Romania, was awarded the “Constantin Silvestri” Scholarship to participate in one year of studies abroad at the prestigious“Stewarts Melville College” in Edinburgh under the tutelage of professor Graeme McNaught(winner of the 1st Scottish International Piano Competition).         

Starting from 2010 at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, winner of the 1st Prizeat the Moray Piano Competition from Elgin,  invited on the 22nd of May, 2011, to perform along Lang Lang in the Royal Festival Hall, in a piano orchestra worth of 100 pianos on stage, but being also selected by Lang Lang to perform in front of the 3000 people, a solo piece by his own choice.

On the 19th of February 2014 was awarded one of the three “ Yamaha Music Foundation Europe Scholarship” after being selected amongst 10 finalists from the UK top Academies and Conservatoires , competition held at the Royal Academy of Music from London. 1st Prize in the Bromsgrove International Competition  , 2nd Prize in the professional category of the “Adilia Alieva” International Piano Competition along with thespecial prize for the imposed piece, semifinalist in the presitigious “Scottish International Piano Competition2nd Prize in the International Piano Competition from Leuze ” Andre Dumortier” and 2nd Prize in the “Montrond Les Bains” International Piano Competition in Montrond, along with the “Public Prize”.

In the “Morocco Philarmonique International Piano Competition” the results were very generous with an unanimously voted 1st Grand Prix, and the two special prizes offered by the competitions including the “Public Prize” and the “Orchestra Prize” , while few months later winning the  1st Prize in the “Sheepdrove Piano Competition” between the finest 2 pianist representing each of the 8 Royal Conservatoires in UK.

The most representative achievement on the international stage is his 2nd Prize and Public prize at the internationally renowed competition “Arthur Rubinstein” in Tel-Aviv in may 2017.         

Other recent international prizes include the  1st Prize in the “BDNES” International Piano Competition held in Rio de Janeiro , Brazil, and 1st Prize and Special Prize for best “Classical Sonata”  at the “UNISA International Piano Competition” in Pretoria, South Africa.

During the 4 undergraduate academic years had masterclasses with Richard Goode, Idil Biret, Philip Fowke, Philip Martin , Pascal Roge, Steven Osbourne , Murray McLachlan, Martino Tirimo, Roy Howat, Petras Geniusas and Ian Fountain.

Performed with many Orchestras including the “Israeli Camerata” and “Israelian Philharmonic Orchestra” in Tel-Aviv , “Mihail Jora” Orchestra from Bacau , “Cergy Pontoise” Orchestra Paris“Chapelle Musicale de Tournai” Belgium , “Royal Conservatoire of Scotland” Symphony Orchestra , “Orchestra Philarmonique du Maroc”, the “Royal Scottish National Orchestra” , “Symphony Orchestra of Pretoria” “Orquestra Sinfonica do Brazil” and the “KZN Philharmonic Orchestra”.

Recently been playing in concerts in “Aldwell Center” Jerusalem, “Bronfman Auditorium” Tel-Aviv , “Baxter Theatre Centre” Cape Town, “Teatro Municipal” Rio de Janeiro , “Tsinghua University” Beijing , Kasbah of Maison Arabe” Marrakech,  “Brittish Consulate”Los Angeles, “Mozarteum” Szalsburg- Austria, “Theatre 95”&”Salle Cortot” Paris , “Fazioli Factory” Sacile – Italy , “Royal Festival Hall”& “Fazioli Centre” in London , while in Scotland in Inverness, Isle of Man, Lanark,Musselbrough, Edinburgh and Glasgow .
